The two-day third Srinagar district Tong IL Moo Do championship was inaugurated at Women’s College, MA Road, here today. Around 450 participants are taking part in the championship.
“Over 450 participants from different schools, colleges and clubs of Srinagar are participating in this district championship. I’m really happy because I’m the first female who has been given the opportunity to organise this mix martial art championship not only in J&K, but rest of the India,” said Bisma Riyaz, who is the organising secretary of the event.
Several top players, who have represented India at various international events, including Afrin Haider, Adnan Ayoub and Mohammad Inam Khan, dazzled the audience with their entertaining demonstrations.
Afrin Haider, a Class XI student, showcased self-defence techniques and body flexibility. Adnan Ayoub demonstrated “Tuls” (combination of martial art steps) on the occasion.
“I’m very happy that this event is being organised at our college. This will create interest among our students,” said Principle, Women’s College, Prof Shaheen Altaf, who was the chief guest on the occasion.
Meanwhile, the Ganderbal Tong IL Moo Do Association is also organising its third district championship at Vijay Memorial School, in which around 350 participants are expected to take part.
The seventh sub-junior national championship of this mix martial art form is also scheduled to be held in the summer capital from May 17 to 19, where over 600 participants from around 20 different states of India are expected to participate.
