Chandigarh, August 1
The Bharatiya Udyog Beopar Mandal today demanded that FDI in multi-brand retail should not be permitted as it would endanger the existence of small and medium traders.
Balkrishan Aggarwal, senior vice-president of the traders’ body who was in the city in connection with preparations for the National Trader Day to be observed on August 9 in New Delhi, said they would not allow FDI in multi-brand retail and were hopeful that the Centre would stick to the promise made to traders before the Lok Sabha elections.
Chandigarh Beopar Mandal (CBM) president Charanjiv Singh said more than 1,500 trader delegates, representing 26 states of India would take part in the meeting on August 9 wherein national president of the traders’ body Shyam Bihari Mishra would submit a demand charter of traders from the country, including Chandigarh, to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
Two important regional issues related to Chandigarh — amendment of obsolete building bylaws considering modern day needs and requirements, and converting all commercial buildings from leasehold into freehold, would also be taken up at Delhi, Charanjiv Singh said.
