Uttarakhand Revenue Minister Yashpal Arya today said the government had chalked out an elaborate plan to preserve traditional handicrafts of the state.
Arya while presiding over a meeting of the Hari Prasad Tamta Paramparagat Shilp Unniyan Sansthan said the government was of the view that the traditional handicrafts of the state could only be preserved by working for the uplift of craftsmen. “We are losing several crafts to modernity. There is an urgent need to provide marketing avenues to craftsmen so that they are able to earn a living and do not feel the need to give up their traditional craftsmanship for lack of marketing avenues,” he said.
He added that the government was planning to open a centre at Garudabaj in Almora dedicated to the promotion of traditional crafts.
