Traditional fervour marks Baisakhi celebrations at city schools

Police DAV Public School, Police Lines, Civil Lines, here, celebrated Baisakhi with enthusiasm on Monday. The kindergarten wing of the school was decorated depicting the harvest season. Children were explained about the importance of the festival by showcasing the Punjabi culture. Dhol beats and Punjabi folk music added to the excitement. Kindergarten children were dressed in colourful Punjabi traditional attires. They relished Baisakhi special dishes to mark the festivity. The motive behind the celebrations was to apprise the children of their rich culture and heritage. While speaking on the occasion, Dr Anu Verma, principal of the school, said Baisakhi was not only a harvest festival but also an auspicious day as on this day Guru Gobind Singh had established the “Khalsa Panth”.
Kundan Vidya Mandir
The kindergarten section of Kundan Vidya Mandir organised Baisakhi celebrations. Students performed bhangra and group song. Headmistress Namita Raj Singh presided over the celebrations. Various stalls of bangles and toys were displayed. A stall of jalebi was also displayed to sweeten up the celebrations.
Cherubs The Preschool
Baisakhi was celebrated with zest at Cherubs The Preschool, Dugri. Dressed in typical folk attire, students of school danced to the tunes of bhangra. The school was decorated with cut-outs of farmers, fulkaris and balloons. The students were told about the Baisakhi festival and they did sponge painting on “Happy Baisakhi” worksheets. The children had a lot of fun and enjoyed dancing with their teachers and friends. The teachers told children about the importance of the festival.
They were also told about various aspects of the rural Punjab, its cultural heritage through tableaux showcasing sowing, ploughing, harvesting, winnowing and gathering of crop.
Tagore Public School
The primary wing of Tagore Public School reverberated with enthusiasm during the Baisakhi celebrations. The festival of harvest was celebrated in order to acquaint the students with the Punjabi culture and tradition. The entire wing was decked with phulkari and flowers. Children came dressed in traditional Punjabi colourful outfits with ornaments and accessories. The students brought sumptuous dishes in their lunch boxes. Principal of the school D Narang, along with coordinators, visited the decorated classrooms and showered blessings on behalf of members of the Managing Committee. A cultural programme was also presented by the students on this occasion.
MGM Public School
Students of MGM Public School, Dugri, celebrated Baisakhi with fervour and enthusiasm. The school premises wore a festive look with the compound decorated with items depicting the heritage of Punjab. Students, especially the tiny tots, were dressed up in colourful Punjabi attire. The programme began with presentations by students in form of group songs, speeches and dances. “Unknown facts of Jallianwala Bagh were depicted through a Punjabi drama, which left the audience spellbound. The function concluded with giddha presented by girls from Classes VII to X. Director GS Thind and Principal Poonam Sharma appreciated the efforts of the students.
Atam Devki Niketan School
Atam Devki Niketan School, Kidwai Nagar, organised a welcome party for students of the pre-primary section and also celebrated Baisakhi. On this occasion, tiny tots presented various performances on different songs in their beautiful attire. A colourful programme depicting the culture of Punjab was also presented by students in which giddha was the main attraction. Boys presented bhangra and made everyone dance along with them. Principal Mridhu Ablash welcomed all students to the new session and appreciated the participation of students.
Shemrock Christian Senior Secondary School
Shemrock Christian Senior Secondary School, Hambran Road, celebrated Baisakhi with joy and enthusiasm. Students of Classes I and II participated in an inter house solo dance competition on Punjabi folk songs and presented the culture of Punjab. Students from Classes III to V presented wonderful rangoli and created Punjabi atmosphere by depicting the Punjabi culture. Principal P Singh conveyed best wishes to all. She appreciated the performance of the students.
BCM School
Festivals bring joy and happiness. Baisakhi is an important harvest festival of Punjab that has religious value as well. Keeping this in mind, students of BCM School, Dugri, celebrated this day with fervour. The school arranged various activities such as creative art, recitation, dance, etc. With the speech in the morning assembly to the dance party by tiny tots, the entire day was dedicated to the celebrations. School principal Dr Vandna Shahi encouraged the students to enjoy and respect all festivals.
Drishti Dr RC Jain Innovative Sr Sec Public School
Baisakhi was celebrated with enthusiasm at Drishti Dr RC Jain Innovative Senior Secondary Public School, Narangwal, by students of Class VIII-A. The programme began with a shabad. The students threw light on the importance of Baisakhi through a speech in English and Punjabi. A short skit conveyed the message that the use of pesticide and burning of stubble affect our health. There was enthusiasm among students when they performed the giddha and bhangra. Tribute was also paid to Dr BR Ambedkar. A theme-based drawing competition was organised for students of Class III. Children made beautiful drawings on the theme “Baisakhi Mela and Family Scene”. Top three positions were awarded to the best performers on the basis of neatness, creativity, colour scheme and time bound.
Manav Rachna International School
The school celebrated Baisakhi with zeal and fervour. Starting from the morning assembly to the theme-based activities, the day was full of joyous learning for children. A lot of theme-based activities were planned for various grades with a motive of helping children learn various aspects of Baisakhi. The themes chosen were “religious, cultural, environmental aspects and other harvesting festivals” celebrated across the country.
Green Land Senior Secondary Public School
Green Land Senior Secondary Public School, Jalandhar Bypass, observed its founder’s day on Monday on the occasion of Baisakhi. Staff and students of the school accorded a warm welcome to the founder of the school, Rajesh Rudhra, chairman-cum-director of chain of Green Land Schools. The school flag was hoisted by Rajesh Rudhra, along with Usha Rudhra, Shabad Rudhra, president of the trust, Vijayata Rudhra, principal Baldeep Pandher and other members of the Managing Committee. Students of various classes participated in a cultural programme representing the Punjabi culture and tradition. Rajesh Rudhra congratulated the staff and students on the occasion.
Ryan International School
Students of Ryan International School, Dugri, celebrated Baisakhi at the school. Students took part in various activities to mark the occasion. A power point presentation related to Baisakhi was shown to the students of Class III-V. A talk show was arranged for the students of Class VIII. Headmistress of the school Ritu Syal said Baisakhi was the beginning of the new Hindu year and it was a day of joy for all of us.
Spring Dale Senior Secondary Public School
Baisakhi was celebrated at Spring Dale Senior Secondary Public School with zeal and fervour. The celebrations began with a lecture in the morning assembly to highlight the significance of the festival. A cultural programme was also organised in the diamond hall to mark the occasion. The attraction of the function was a competition for the titles ‘Singh is King’ and ‘Kaur Di Taur’ in various categories form Classes K1 to XII.
Childhood Kindergarten
The school celebrated Baisakhi with enthusiasm. It organised a kirtan programme for children. Some of the students were dressed as Panj Pyare (five beloved ones). Teachers told the students about the importance of the day. Langar was served to students after the ardaas.
