Khamano, March 19

A number of persons of the area, along with members of the Satkar Committee, Kisan Unions, Akali Dal (Mann) and other organisations, had started a traffic blockade on the road yesterday, demanding the removal of Birs from the dera. The protesters, led by Satkar Committee president Sukhjit Singh Khose,  alleged that the use of liquor in the dera was sacrilege and disrespect to Guru Granth Sahib.

Although the protesters were adamant to march towards the dera, SPD Fatehgarh Sahib Rajwinder Singh Sohal, SDM Khamano Arina Duggal and DSP Khamano Ajinder Singh asked them to wait till the decision of the SGPC. At about 1.30 pm, a team of the SGPC reached with eight Birs. The protesters paid obeisance and ended their protest.
