Frequent traffic jams near major metro stations have made travel an annoying task in the city.

The metro stations such as MG Road, IFFCO Chowk and HUDA City Centre metro stations face frequent traffic snarls as service lanes outside these stations are heavily encroached by autorickshaws, cycle rickshaws and street vendors.

While rickshaw pullers, autorickshaw drivers and city bus drivers are blatantly flouting traffic rules and blocking roads in their race to load more passengers, vendors have occupied most part of the pavements making the area congested.

What makes the situation more ironic is that all these violations are being carried out right under the nose of traffic policemen who are stationed outside these metro stations.

The prepaid booths outside the metro stations in Gurgaon were introduced by the Gurgaon traffic police in June to check fleecing by autos and reduce traffic congestion outside the metro stations. The DMRC pleads helplessness saying they can take action within the limits of the metro stations.

The traffic policemen, on the other hand, claimed they were keeping check on illegal parking by imposing challans on violators.
