Traffic resumes on Chamba-Pathankot road

Chamba, March 5

The Chamba-Pathankot highway was opened for vehicular traffic today.

Public Works Department (PWD) officials said the road was blocked due to a huge landslide near Kandu, 20 km from Chamba district headquarters, in the morning following widespread rain. They said after receiving the information, a workforce comprising engineers rushed to the site and swung into action. The debris was removed from the highway.

The debris of another huge landslide at Panjpulla Nullah had already been cleared for traffic movement, they said. A number of vehicles were stranded on the highway.

Meanwhile, Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Subh Karan Singh who is officiating as Deputy Commissioner, Chamba, said so far the loss caused to roads, water supply schemes, public and private property due to widespread rain and snow had been accounted to around Rs 27 crore in the district, adding that 112 villages were facing electricity disruption.

Heavy snowfall at Khajjiar

Dalhousie: The famous hill resort of Khajjiar in Chamba district has been experiencing snowfall since morning, officials of the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) said here on Thursday. The officials said Khajjiar recorded 10 cm of snowfall till noon and was still continuing till the filing of the report. The lower areas of the district were in the grip of cold winds as the entire region was having rain. — OC
