A controversial transport company, Jujhar Transport and Travel, continues to flout the safety rules with impunity. Today, the driver and the conductor were seen loading the motorcycle of a passenger in the luggage space of a Chandigarh-bound luxury bus of the company.

They were loading the two-wheeler without removing its battery and emptying the fuel tank, thus compromising with the safety of the passengers. No one at Shaheed Sukhdev Inter-state Bus Terminus stopped them from doing so.

Jasbinder Singh Grewal, president, Punjab Mini-Bus Operators Association, said certain norms have to be followed while ferrying two-wheelers, such as the petrol tank should be emptied and the battery removed. Otherwise there is a danger of a fire caused by leaking fuel from the bike, which could be catastrophic.

Rajdeep Singh, senior manager of Jujhar Transport and Travels, said: “If the luggage space is available then what is wrong in ferrying a bike.” When asked whether the battery of the two-wheeler was detached and the fuel tank emptied, he said: “I am not aware of the fact whether these safety norms were followed or not.”
