Tributes paid to BR Ambedkar

Dehradun, April 14

Chief Minister Harish Rawat today said Dr BR Ambedkar was known for his contribution to uplift of the weaker sections of society. He paid floral tributes to Dr Ambedkar to commemorate his 124th birth anniversary.

According to Rawat, Ambedkar showed the path of social solidarity to the downtrodden. This is the reason that his birth anniversary is celebrated as an inspiration for social uplift across the world. He said Ambedkar played an important role in uniting people, irrespective of their castes, and religion.

At a function held at Rajeev Bhavan, Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee, state chief Kishore Upadhyay paid floral tributes to Ambedkar.

He said Ambedkar played an important role in drafting the Constitution of India. According to him, Ambedkar laid a foundation stone for developing India.  Upadhyay said he had worked hard to eradicate social evils from our society.

Aryandera Sharma, Rajendra Shah, Vinod Chauhan, Sunita, Mamta Gurung,  Meher Lata, Lal Chand Sharma and others were present on the occasion. Dalit Shaushan Mukti Manch members celebrated the 124th birth anniversary of Ambedkar and paid floral tributes to him at a function held here today. Addressing agitators, Surendra Singh Sajjwan said that everyone should contribute to banishing social evils.

He said collective efforts are needed for improving the social and economic status of the under-privileged. He expressed concern that the Centre had quashed budget for beneficiary programmes, which were meant for uplift of SC/ST sections.  Shardul Panwar, Lekhraj and others were present on the occasion.

The BSP celebrated its 31st foundation day and celebrated the birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar at a function organised at Hindi Bhavan here today.  Chowdhury Charan Singh, state general secretary, BSP, said it is everyone’s duty to contribute to the nation’s development. Usha Rani, Anita Valmiki, Ajay Pal Singh, Om Prakash and others were present on the occasion.

Haridwar:   The Google search engine paid tributes to the Chairman of the Indian Constitution Bhim Rao Ambedkar today by dedicating a doodle with a photo of the Dalit stalwart and freedom fighter. On the 124th birth anniversary of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, who was also the first Law Minister, Google today changed its doodle by displaying a photo of the legendary statesman. 

This step was lauded by people at various functions held today in the district. Dr Ambedkar was born  this day in 1891 at Mhou, Madhya Pradesh. Orators shed light on his contribution to the freedom movement, Indian politics, society and uplift of the lower strata. 

At Valmiki Ashram in  Kankhal, a special function was organised where people paid floral tributes and remembered the pivotal role of Baba Saheb in the freedom struggle and uplift of Dalits.

Ambedkar Samiti president Sunil Kumar said the importance of Baba Saheb is well reflected by Google.

Legislator of BHEL Ranipur Aadesh Chauhan and Jwalapur Mandi Samiti chairperson Sanjay Chopra also paid floral tributes to the leader at a function organised by the Peeth Bazaar Vyapar Vikas Samiti.

The Uttarakhand Kranti Dal termed him as a visionary who followed Gandhian and Buddhism principles.

Valmiki Samaj representative Nitin Teshwar said Baba Saheb paved the way for the suppressed people to join the mainstream by guiding them towards education, social equality, reservation and self pride.
