Members of the Shilpa Parishad, Chamba, paid tributes to renowned art historian and scholar Dr Vishwa Chander Ohri, 91, who passed away on February 28 last in Shimla.
Dr Ohri was the first regular curator of the Bhuri Singh Museum, Chamba, and was also the founding curator of the Himachal State Museum, Shimla.
Apart from strengthening both museums, he had documented the rich cultural heritage of the state. He was an authority on the Pahari miniature painting.
Ohri had a discerning eye to recognise the talent of craftsmen and encouraged them to continue the traditional arts. Several artists of Chamba and Shimla were benefitted by his expertise and many artists received national awards in various fields of arts.
He had authored several books on the arts of the state and had several research papers. In a condolence message, members of the Shilpa Parishad said Ohri would be remembered for his remarkable contribution in the field of arts.
