TRP-driven serials cause for concern: TV artiste

Bollywood and TV actor SM Zaheer has expressed concern over the television rating point (TRP) driven serials in the country.
Zaheer, who had become a household name for his quality acting in television serials like ‘Hum Log’ and ‘Buniyaad’, while addressing mediapersons here on Saturday, said the quality of serials had certainly decreased with the TRP driven serials becoming part of the day.
“When we acted in serials like ‘Buniyaad’, ‘Hum Log’ and even ‘Phir Wahi Talash’, these serials had a story line that had a beginning and an end. But that things are missing today,” Zaheer said. He said a big number of days were then spent in making serials, which has been reduced to a matter of hours, affecting the quality of serial.
Zaheer, who has acted in blockbusters films like Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and Veer Zaara describes veteran superstar Dilip Kumar his ideal. “Dilip Kumar is a university on its own and I always looked up to him as artiste as inspiration,” he said. He also termed Kajol and Tabbu as some of present day fine actrors.
Responding to a query, he said while he had no formal training but has always loved theatre, which finally brought him in TV serials and films. He also praised Uttarakhandi people of being simple and honest.
Zaheer’s close friend and Doonite Kamal Kant Sharma was also present on the occasion. Earlier, Uttaranchal Press Club president Naveen Thaledi welcomed Zaheer at the club.
