A report of the Health Department reveals that female sterilisation (tubectomy) is around 17 times higher than male sterilisation (vasectomy) in the state.
As per the report of the department, as many as 58,461 persons have undergone sterilisation process till the end of January this year, of which 55,179 are women against 3,383 men.
The difference is exorbitantly high in Hisar district, where only 0.8 per cent men go for vasectomy in comparison to 6,798 women. The situation is same in Bhiwani district with only 1.8 per cent men opting for sterilisation as against 4,844 women.
The figures are alarming in Mewat district with only 333 women undergoing sterilisation and no male coming forward for the same.
Karnal leads in vasectomy of men at 821, which is around 33 per cent of tubectomy in women at 2,465, followed by Kurukshetra with 347 men as against 1,439.
Districts like Panchkula, Gurgaon and Faridabad are also lacking behind with less participation of men in family planning. Gurgaon stands at the sixth place with 2,788 women in comparison to 307 men.
Faridabad stands at the tenth position in the state with 2,536 women and 99 men cases. Panchkula is at the 19th position in the state with 1,447 women in comparison to 75 men.
“Men have misconceptions which stop them from undergoing vasectomy due to which women have to undergo the process,” said Dr Rajinder Kumar, Deputy Civil Surgeon (Family Planning).
He said the government was providing incentive to men and women for the same.
