Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) will construct 16 substations in different cities of Garhwal and Kumaon divisions of the state.
Officials said once the sub-stations become functional, the problem of overloading and low voltage in the affected colonies would be solved.
The department has chalked out plans to strengthen electricity distribution system in 31 cities with the resident population above 10,000 in the state.
The project to construct proposed substations would be done under Re-structured Accelerated Power Development & Reforms Programme (R-APDRP) launched by the Ministry of Power, Government of India, aimed at reduction of the statewide Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses to below 15 per cent in the coming years.
Madhusudan, an official spokesman for UPCL, said UPCL managing director SS Yadav has passed strict instructions to complete all pending projects in the given time-frame in order to ensure disruption-free and round-the-clock electricity supply to 1.89 million electricity consumers spread across the state.
He said plans were in the pipeline for improving the electricity distribution system in order to curtail the problem of overloading in affected areas of the district.
