The Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) have decided to impose power cuts in urban areas in proportion to the line losses reported in a particular locality.
The decision was taken on March 31. The localities identified will get reduced power supply as per the transmission and distribution (T&D) losses in the area.
In a memo to all superintending engineers (SEs) of the UHBVN and DHBVN, the power utilities headquarters at Panchkula stated, “It has been decided to link the electricity supply hours to the level of losses in the urban and rural domestic feeders (RDS) on urban mode,” while maintaining that the supply hours on feeders with above 20 per cent T&D losses would be regulated to reduce the quantum of loss.
The table given in the letter indicated that two hours of power cut would be imposed in localities having 20 per cent to 25 per cent line losses, while areas having 25 per cent to 35 per cent line losses would get four hours of cut in three slots. The localities that report 35 per cent to 50 per cent T&D losses would get six-hour cut, in areas registering above 50 per cent line losses, power cut would be imposed for eight hours every day in four time slots. So far, urban areas have been getting 24 per cent supply and power cuts were being imposed only in rural areas.
DL Hansu, DHBVN SE, said eight localities in Hisar town would get power cuts as per the T&D losses reported in these areas. The areas are Mahavir Colony, Sector 16-17, Jahajpul, Azad Nagar, BSF locality, Vinod Nagar, Talwandi-Juglan and Shiv Nagar.
