Hundreds of people on Tuesday participated in a massive protest here over killing of Army men in the Uri terror attack in Kashmir. Activists of the Congress, BJP, SAD and AAP, besides various non-government social and cultural organisations, thronged the Shaheed Chowk at the Sadar Bazar terminal on the North Circular Road. They raised anti-Pakistan slogans and urged the Modi government to act befittingly instead of reiterating diplomatic tenses. They paid floral tributes to the memorial here where 34 persons were gunned down by Khalistan supporters in 1990.

District Congress president Vimal Thatai said: “For how long will we tolerate attacks on our sovereignty”.

NGOs had organised a candlelight march to pay tributes to the Army martyrs and expressed solidarity with their families yesterday.

Reports received from neighbouring border districts of Sriganganagar and Hanumangarh said effigies of the Pakistan PM and Pakistan flags were burnt during protest marches in Goluwala, Gharsana, Srivijaynagar, Sriganganagar and Hanumangarh. Candlelight marches were also organised by students of various colleges.
