A team of researchers from the US visited Manava Bharati India International School here today. Prof Mahesh Shrinivasan from University of California; Catherine Berner, manager of language lab, Brooklyn University; and Rajat Mishra, CEO of EFKON and president of Manava Bharati Society, were among the visiting team.
Shrinivasan is Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology and a member of the Cognitive Science Faculty at the University of California, Berkeley. Using empirical methods from developmental psychology and psycholinguistics, his research explores how linguistic, cognitive and social abilities arise and interact with one another during human development and across different cultures.
Catherine Berner is involved in many aspects of this research. She is currently studying the role of word flexibility in the language development of young children.
They have zeroed in on a few schools across the world for their research. Their three pronged areas of research include student’s attitude and fear of maths, aptitude of children, how social peer pressure colours their choice of subjects and tolerance among students on the basis of caste, creed and religion.
The school organised an interactive session of the guests with the senior students along with a colourful programme. School Director Himanshu Shekhar and Principal Nina Pant thanked the guests for selecting the school for their research programme.
