Wider security arrangements have been made for the Uttarayani festival at Bageshwar. Chief Minister Harish Rawat will inaugurate the festival tomorrow.
The seven-day long Uttarayani festival being held at Haldwani is drawing huge crowds these days.
Balwant Singh Chufal, organiser of the Uttarayani festival at Haldwani, said the programmes being organised at the festival reflected Kumoani culture, especially the tribal culture of Darma and Johar valleys of the Kumaon.
“Century old methods of storytelling by women, Conch blowing and fancy dress competitions based on old traditions in Kumaon were organised today,” he said.
Besides selling organic pulses and vegetables at the festival, the organisers have also showcased variety of salt taste, grinded in stone grinders mixed with various Kumoani spices.
“The stone grinded salt has been used in Kumaon region from centuries as a snack during the winter season,” he said.
