A day after the Rothak police busted a gang of four persons who conspired to leak the All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT) in Rohtak; the Veterinary Council of India (VCI) has suspended its secretary on the charges of irregularities in conducting the All India Pre-Veterinary Test (AIPVT).
Secretary Anup Bhaumik was placed under suspension by the VCI Director Dr Umesh Chandra Sharma today, (a copy of the suspension is with The Tribune).
Bhaumik was facing a CBI inquiry into the charges of irregularities in conducting the AIPVT for admission to Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (BVSc & AH) course in the veterinary institutes in 2011-12.
On being contacted, the VCI Director confirmed about the suspension. He said the CBI conducted an inquiry into the incident of changing the optical response seats (ORS) of 89 examinees during the test.
“The CBI inquiry found lapses and negligence on his part and asked the VCI to conduct a departmental inquiry into the charges,” he said, adding Bhaumik was also facing some other corruption charges.
Veterinary Council of India Vice-President Dr Gurdyal Singh, who is also the Dean of Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (LUVAS), Hisar, said Bhaumik was appointed in 2002.
He said Bhaumik would remain under suspension until the inquiry was completed. Further action would be taken on the basis of the departmental probe, Gurdyal Singh said, adding they were in the process of forming a probe panel.
