Vidhu Jain’s kin to begin ‘insaaf yatra’ to PM’s house
Sangrur, August 26
To protest the non-arrest of Vidhu Jain’s killers even after about two years of the murder, his family today announced to go on an “Insaaf yatra” from Sri Durgiana Mandir, Amritsar, to the Prime Minister’s residence in Delhi. They said they would cover the distance on foot from August 31 (Vidhu’s birthday) to September 15.
Eleven-year-old Vidhu was burnt alive on September 30, 2013, in broad daylight at Malerkotla. The incident had occurred when Vidhu was going to hand over a lunch box to his younger brother at a school in Malerkotla.
Vinod Jain, an uncle of Vidhu, termed the Pedal Yatra as a journey to seek justice for his nephew. He also expressed his resentment against the police inaction.
He said the family had been getting threats through social media from unknown persons saying they would disrupt the “Insaaf yatra” when it would pass through Malerkotla. He said the family had written to Sangrur Deputy Commissioner and the SSP to make arrangements for their security.
Jain said the family had also written to the Home Ministers of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi to provide them security during the “Insaaf yatra”.
He also said the CBI inquiry was not being done at a fast pace.
After the Punjab Police failed to crack the case for more than a year, on November 29, 2014, the Punjab and Haryana High Court, on the petition of Vidhu’s mother, ordered a CBI inquiry into the case. — TNS
