A team of the State Vigilance Department today seized samples of paver blocks on a suspicion that these were made of substandard material.
Already, the Vigilance has taken samples of the roads that were re-carpeted recently by the Municipal Corporation.
A Vigilance team, headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Raj Singh, took the samples from Sectors 4, 15 and other areas today. Executive Engineer BS Kamboj accompanied the team.
“It will take 8-10 days to collect all samples. As the complainant mentioned splurging of public money on paver blocks as well, we decided to take samples of pavers,” said Raj Singh.
A few days ago, the Haryana Government had ordered a Vigilance inquiry after a resident of Sector 4, BL Tandon, approached the Director General, Vigilance, and informed about a high-level corruption in the civic body works.
Later, the Director General (DG) Vigilance SN Vashisht recommended an inquiry into the allegation.
Residents had complained that councillors were splurging money on paver blocks and replacing good cemented blocks with pavers.
