Vodafone fined for not converting postpaid connection into prepaid

The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has asked Vodafone to pay Rs 10,000 to the complainant for not converting a postpaid connection into prepaid and resume the service in time.

While asking the company to immediately convert the connection and resume the service, the court imposed a fine of Rs 5000 as compensation for mental agony and harassment caused to the complainant. The court also ordered Vodafone to pay Rs 5,000 as costs of litigation.

In his complaint, Mandeep Sharma alleging that he contacted the telecommunication company for changing his mobile number from postpaid to prepaid. As instructed by the executive of the Vodfone store, the complainant deposited the bill till February 26 last year. He paid Rs 171 in excess, which the company did not refund. However, when the connection was still not converted, the complainant approached the company on March 4. He was told that since the previous documents have been misplaced, he should submit a fresh form besides documents and a photograph. The complainant stated that even as he competed the formality, the prepaid SIM card was not activated. The complainant later came to know that due to non-clearing of the bill and dues, the SIM card was not activated.
