Wildlife week at Dolphin Institute concludes

Different activities such as birding, butterfly and wild flowers, sighting and counting in natural forests of Dehradun, a master quiz, collage making and a short presentation competition were held during the Wildlife Week-2015 held at the Dolphin (PG) Institute of Biomedical and Natural Sciences here today.

The programme organised by the Forestry Department began with tree plantation by Arvind Gupta, chairman, Dolphin (PG) Institute of Biomedical and Natural Sciences on October 1. Choicest species of plants were selected for planting, special lectures on natural heritage of wildlife significance such as Manas (Assam) World Heritage was delivered by Dr Sonali Ghosh of the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun on October 5. A lecture on Wetland Biodiversity was delivered by Dr Arun Kumar, director of the institute. Dr Sas Biswas, HoD of the Forestry Department conducted master quiz for the students while Dr Shailja Pant, principal of the institute motivated the students and stressed upon the urgency towards the conservation of the declining wildlife of India and Uttarakhand in particular. Prizes were awarded by Arvind Gupta, Dr Shailja Pant, principal and Dr Arun Kumar.  For birding, butterfly and wild flowers sighting and count, Kanchan won the first prize, while Ritwika and Sanjana got the second prize. In collage making, Minakshi got the first prize while Isha Kaul and Priya got the second prize. The master quiz prizes were bagged by Akozu and Suman while Nidhi and Ashutosh were runners-up. 

Faculty members Dr Sandhya Goswami, Dr Tahir, Dr Anil Uniyal, Samresh, Natalia, Monideepa and Anup guided the students to organize the activities during Wildlife Week . Chanchal Goel, Malti Sawhney, Dr Shruti Sharma and students of different departments participated  in various events.
