The problem continues because males don't know how to respect women. There is a need for education and right upbringing and it has to begin from family and right education. Those whom girls complain about the problem sometimes tell them to avoid getting into the mess. Children must be taught about respecting women. —Harpreet Bhathal, a student

Eve-teasing continues due to male chauvinism and patriarchal mentality. Though the police are supposed to be protective, girls avoid reporting such cases as they are only victimised. If girl responds and raises her voice, they are dubbed as not having manners and values. But there needs to be stringency in law to end this problem apart from change of mentality of people at the society level. —Manveen Kaur, a student.

I think tardy judicial system and people's attitude of advising girls to save themselves by avoiding getting into trouble by reacting are some of the reasons why the problem remains. Girls are judged from the way they dress. They need to come together, become organised without fear to stop this from happening. There needs to be a mass awareness that public at large must never see any nuisance or eve-teasing incidents silently and deal with those involved in eve-teasing and harassment strictly. —Harmanpreet Kaur, a student.

Women fear retaliation if they react. There have been incidents of attacks on women and they fear that if they react to eve-teasing it would only lead to more harassment, more problems. Women need to get empowered. Lectures and lessons on human values must be made a part of education throughout schools and colleges. —Saloni, a student

One of the reasons for this increasing problem is that somewhere families have not been able to instil values. There needs to be social upbringing and orientation of boys to make them realise the importance of paying respect to all, including women. Law must also empower women and they must get together to formulate action in case of any such incident of eve-teasing or harassment. —Deepsi, a student
