As the ICC Cricket World Cup has begin, postage stamps about World Cup are in high demand by philatelists. Seeing the popularity of these postage stamps as well as craze for cricket, the postal department has made these available at sub-post offices as well. Senior postmaster at Head Post Office (HPO) said sale of the postage stamps has exceeded 400 at HPO.
The commemorative postage stamps are a set of postages stamps brought out by New Zealand. The stamp sheet includes 14 self-adhesive postage stamps in the shape of cricket-ball each of these has a different colour representing team colours of the contesting nations.
Apart from the official logo of the World Cup, first-day cover is also available at the post office. Price of one sheet is Rs 400 and there is good demand. The postal department is offering a scheme as well. On the purchase of four such postage stamp sheets one sheet is being given free, said Pahwa. He said there is a good demand and they have sold a substantial number of these postage-stamp sheets.
“We got 2,400 postage-stamp sheets to begin with, but seeing the popularity of these postage stamps, we have received 1,100 more stamps. “We have made these available at all the post offices,” he said.
“I am a huge cricket fan. But unfortunately, there is hardly any original World Cup memorabilia available here. But thankfully, these postage stamps are available. This is the reason enough for me to buy these even though I am not a postage stamp collector,” said Amandeep, a resident.
Shridhar Mallawat said the quality of these stamps is very good.
