Goods worth several lakh rupees were gutted in a fire at a yarn recycling unit on Chandigarh Road here today. Till the filing of the report, the fire was not doused. Sources said the fire occurred due to a short circuit. Officials of the Fire Department said it would take 12-13 hours to extinguish the fire.
The raging fire spread panic among residents of the area. The fire fighters had to break one of the walls of the unit to douse the fire as they couldn’t enter the premises with acrylic yarn lying all around.
Fire tenders from Samrala and Khanna were called as local fire tenders couldn’t tackle the fire. Sub-Fire Officer RS Sharma said they would only be able to contain the fire by midnight.
