Zirakpur, September 28
A 23-year-old youth was killed while three others sustained injuries when the Verna car they were travelling in overturned after hitting the divider on the Zirakpur flyover late last night.
The incident occurred at around 12.45 am. The deceased has been identified as Rajwinder Singh, a resident of Chandigarh. He was driving the car and lost control at a turn on the flyover and hit the divider. Those injured in the accident are Jimmy, a resident of Ambala, Kuldeep of Sultanpur and Johny of Abohar.
According to the police, the victims were returning to Chandigarh after having dinner at a dhaba in Zirakpur. The police said the car was at a high speed due to which the driver lost control over the vehicle.
A passerby shifted all victims to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32. “Rajwinder Singh was declared brought dead at the hospital. The three injured were discharged from the hospital today,” said Baltana police post in charge Amandeep Singh. The police have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC in the case.
Killer spot
An 18-year-old youngster, a 20-year-old engineering student and another person were killed at the same spot in an accident in the first week of February this year.
The youngsters were racing their cars, a Pajero and a Hyundai i20, at the time of the accident. The Pajero driver was tossed out of the vehicle on the flyover and landed on the road below, resulting in his death on the spot.
The i20 car had collided with a streetlight pole on the median, before crossing the divider and damaging three other vehicles on the other side of the road.
