The funeral was attended by a large number of villagers from the surrounding areas. Family members alleged that they had informed the local administration and had also sought help from doctors to help them handle the seven month old corpse. However, no one came, they said.

Ram Chander said that his son Pradeep had gone to Saudi Arabia in 2012 and was working as a plumber. He returned for a three month holiday in March, 2014 and was married to Annu on May 20. Pradeep went back on May 27.

On September 3, his son’s roommate, Kuldeep Singh called to say that Pradeep had committed suicide on August 30. We made efforts to ascertain the cause of death but failed to do so, he said.

The deceased’s younger brother Surjeet and cousin Sushil said that they had to run from pillar to post to bring the body back. They met the local MLA, MP and officials of various departments for help but in vain.

Surjeet said “We somehow contacted the Indian Embassy there and urged the officers to help them.”

Today, Annu became unconscious on seeing the body and was helped by women in the house.
