Patiala, March 20
Officials of the Nabha jail have replied to a legal notice by alleged druglord Jagdish Singh Bhola’s counsel Satish Karkra, saying that Bhola had been kept in separate confinement in the Nabha jail on court orders. The officials also attached a copy of the orders dated March 10.
Karkra had sent a notice to the jail authorities after Bhola was shifted to separate confinement over alleged violation of prison rules.
Not convinced with the reply, Karkra alleged: “I am the counsel and I was not even aware of any such orders. I am not sure whether proper procedure was followed by the jail authorities.”
He said he had to take court’s permission to meet his client Bhola, which was unjust. A news channel had aired a 14-minute telephonic interview of Bhola in the first week of March in which Bhola had accused former Patiala SSP HS Mann and the state police of blowing up figures of the drug racket to gain publicity. After this development, the jail authorities sought permission from the court to move him to separate confinement over the violation of prison rules.
Produced in court
Bhola was produced in the court of District Sessions Judge HS Madaan today in a money laundering case. The next hearing is on April 15.
