Rashpal Hakuwal, general secretary of SOI Punjab today surrendered before Civil Judge Rekha Chaudhary in a clash case in which PU chief security officer Jatin Grover and two other security personnel were injured in 2014.

Hakuwal was then granted a regular bail on the bail bond of Rs 45,000. The court had issued non-bailable warrants against him one and a half years ago. His counsel Sajal Sharma told the court that he was looking after his grandfather, who terminally ill, so he could not appear.

Along with Hakuwal, Sehjpal, Naval and Meet Jatana were arrested for their alleged involvement on July 1, 2014, following a complaint submitted by the PU authorities, a case under Sections 147 (rioting), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of a common object), 332 (injuring a public servant on duty), 353 (obstructing a public servant from duty by means of assault) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC was registered at the Sector 11 police station. — TNS
