Couple held in bank loan fraud case

The police in neighbouring Sadulshehar in Rajasthan have arrested Mohini Devi (37) and her husband Rajinder Jat (40) of Chunnu village of Lambi segment in Muktsar district under Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC in a bank loan fraud case.

The couple had allegedly tried to get loan sanctioned by HDFC Bank against the agricultural land owned by Ansuiya, wife of Haryana Police Inspector General Kuldeep Sihag.

Pawan Kumar of Ramkot village in Abohar had reportedly learnt that someone had applied for bank loan against the agricultural land that his maternal sister Ansuiya owned in Kishanpura village in the Sadulshehar subdivision.

He visited the bank office in Sadulshehar and moved an application to stall the proceedings.

Preliminary investigations indicated that Mohini Devi impersonated Ansuiya and her husband Rajinder impersonated as Het Ram, witness to the loan seeker.

The bank staff had sent the file for final approval to Sriganganagar-based senior officials.

Investigation officer Suresh Kaswan said the couple had been arrested and sent to three-day custody.

The impersonating woman had sought loan worth Rs 29 lakh by producing revenue documents of the land owned by Ansuiya.
