Dehradun, September 2
The Nainital High Court has rejected the petition that sought permission for the conduct of animal sacrifice at the Nanda Devi mela.
The Ram Sewak Sabha, which organised the mela, had filed a petition asserting that animal sacrifice at the Nanda Devi mela was part of their age-old tradition and thus allowed to be continued. The petitioner held that they be allowed to conduct animal sacrifice at permanent slaughterhouse at some distance from the Nanda Devi temple.
However, the Naintial High Court Bench headed by Chief Justice KM Joseph rejected the petition. The fair is slated to being on September 18.
