A local court today sent four bouncers to four-day police remand. They were arrested by the district police yesterday after their anticipatory bail petition was rejected by the court.
The police produced Gurvinder Singh of Kishanpur village, Baljinder Singh of Thambla village and Baljit Singh of Attewali village, in Fatehgarh Sahib in Punjab, and Satbir Singh of Godi Nazir village in Kaithal district of Haryana, before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate JL Azad who sent them to the police remand till August 14. However, fifth bouncer Gagandeep Singh, who slipped into coma, was still undergoing treatment.
Four workers were injured when nine bouncers hired by contractor Rajiv Sharma allegedly fired at protesting workers at an under-construction site of IIT at Kamand near here on June 20. The workers were protesting against non-payment of their monthly wages for the past more than a month and non-deposit of their EPF amount for nearly one-and-a-half year.
The police had registered a case under the Arms Act and other sections of the IPC against the five bouncers .
