The High Court has convicted Sunil Kumar for possessing charas. Holding him guilty, a division bench comprising Justice Rajiv Sharma and Justice Chander Bhusan Barowalia set aside the judgment passed by the Special Judge, Chamba, acquitting the accused.
An appeal was filed by the state government against the acquittal of the accused.
The prosecution said on January 15, 2012, the police had laid a naka at the Zero Point in Jassourgarh (Chamba). The accused, on seeing the police, tried to flee, but was nabbed. During search, 1-kg charas was recovered from him.
The prosecution had examined 10 witnesses, but the trial court acquitted the accused. The state then filed an appeal before the High Court. The court will pronounce the quantum of sentence on June 20.
