Mine owner penalised in Bageshwar

Pithoragarh, June 2

Bageshwar District Magistrate BS Manral today imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on a mine owner in the Kanda area of Bageshwar district for not abiding by laws and illegally mining 529 metric tonnes of soft stone.

The DM, along with Deputy Collector Haribir Singh and Deputy Director, Mining Department, Rajapal Legha , inspected the mining area following complaints of irregularities. “The mining company was involved in illegal mining and flouting  safety laws,” said the District Magistrate.

The District Magistrate also withheld the license of a mining company in the Sunargaon area of the district for allegedly flouting mining laws by disposing of the debris at fields and water bodies.
