Nabha jailbreak: Court gives copies of challan to accused

The Nabha court today handed over written copies of the police challan to over one dozen accused in the Nabha jailbreak case.

The accused were brought to the court amidst tight security. The Kotwali Nabha police station had submitted the challan in the court on February 24. The incident took place on November 27 in which six inmates of the Nabha Maximum Security Jail were freed with the support of their accomplices, about 12 in number.

The FIR was registered under Sections 307, 392, 223, 224, 120B, 148, 149, 201, 419, 170, 171, 353, 186, 212, 216 and 489 of the IPC and Sections 11, 13, 16, 17 and 18 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. The accused against whom the challan was submitted included Bheem Singh, Assistant Superintendent, Nabha Maximum Security Jail, head warder Jagmeet Singh, Tejinder Sharma, Gurpreet Singh, Bikkar Singh, Palwinder Singh, alias Pinda, Jagatvir Singh, alias Jagta Sidhu, Harminder Singh, alias Mintu, Naresh Narang, Chanpreet Singh, alias Channa, Harjot Singh, alias Jot, Ranjit Singh, Mohammad Asim, Kulpreet Singh, alias Neeta Deol, and Sunil Kalra.

Superintendent of Police (Investigations) Harvinder Singh Virk said the police would now file supplementary challans against Gurpreet Singh Sekhon, Manvir Sekhon and others. Gurpreet and Mnavir have been shifted to the Kapurthala jail.
