When PDP MLA from Darhal Choudhary Zulfiqar Ali violated the Supreme Court’s ban by using tinted film on windowpanes of his vehicle, the police didn’t dare to act against him.

Instead a police officer said the MLA might be driving vehicle of his brother, who is in judiciary.

Choudhary Zulfikar Ali, a former minister, reached PDP office at Gandhi Nagar this afternoon in his Toyota Fortuner, bearing registration number JK02AX-5152, to attend the party meeting, which was addressed by the PDP president, Mehbooba Mufti.

His vehicle had complete tinted film on the windowpanes, which is in violation of the SC ban. But the PDP MLA seems to have no respect for the ban.

In April 2012, the Supreme Court had put a complete ban on tinted glasses beyond the permissible limit on vehicles except for few VIPs who come under Z and Z plus security. After the SC’s direction, people started adhering to the ban, but a lawmaker of J&K is violating the same.

When Superintendent of Police (SP), Jammu (South), S Salaria was asked to impound the vehicle of the MLA, replied that they would have to first check whether the vehicle belonged to the MLA or his brother, who was in judiciary.

The police officer showed no concern towards the ban being violated by none other than a lawmaker.

When asked as why he has put tinted film on glasses of his vehicles, Choudhary Zulfiqar Ali replied, “I fall under Z security category and have taken permission from the authorities concerned.”

But as per the rules, a Z security category man should have security cover of at least 22 security personnel, but the PDP MLA doesn’t have any such security. “During the previous government when he was a Cabinet minister, Ali was a Z security category person, but since the government is not in place, he doesn’t fall in this category,” said a source in Police Department.
