Awards totaling Rs 16.50 lakh were given at a National Lok Adalat held in Mohali district today. The adalat with Benches at Mohali, Kharar and Dera Bassi took up criminal compoundable cases for settlement.

Monika Lamba, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, District Legal Services Authority ( DLSA), said in the Judicial Court Complex, here, two Benches were set up. One was headed by Archana Puri, district and sessions judge-cum-Chairman, DLSA, and the other by Bisman Mann, Judicial Magistrate (First Class).

She said two Benches were set up at Dera Bassi and Kharar. The Dera Bassi Bench was headed by Raj Karan, Civil Judge (Junior Division), while at Kharar Daljeet Kaur, Judicial Magistrate (First Class ) heard the cases.

Lamba said lok adalats provided speedy justice and at a nominal cost. The verdict was final and no appeal was maintainable.

She said the next National Lok Adalat would be held on October 8. It would take up traffic, petty and civic body-related cases. — OC
