Tara in transit remand, to be brought to Ropar court today

Beant Singh’s assassin Jagtar Singh Tara’s three-day police remand in the Rulda Singh murder case ended today. He was produced in the court of Judicial Magistrate Ravneet Singh at 1 pm.

The Patiala police did not seek his further remand. He was sent to judicial remand till February 6.

Sources said since investigations in the Rulda Singh case were complete, the Patiala police did not seek Tara’s further remand

The Ropar police, that was present in the court, sought Tara’s remand in an attempt to murder case registered at Ropar in 1991. The judge sent Tara to a one-day transit remand to Ropar. He will be produced in a Ropar court tomorrow.

Sources said Tara was wanted in seven cases in Punjab and Chandigarh. The Punjab police will try to keep him in custody for another three weeks to investigate different cases and then hand him over to the Chandigarh Police. Apart from Beant Singh’s assassination and the Burail jailbreak, Tara has five more cases against him in Punjab.

In 1991, he was booked by the Ropar police for attacking a police party. He was 18 then. Another case was registered against him at the Goraya police station in Jalandhar district on September 21, 2012, under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, 1967 and the Explosives Act. Yet another case was registered against him with the Bhogpur police station in Jalandhar.

The Rulda Singh murder case and a case for waging war against the state were registered against him by the Patiala district police.

May be quizzed by Bathinda police too

Bathinda: The Bathinda police may interrogate Jagtar Singh Tara in connection with the arrest of Ramandeep Singh alias Sunny in November last year. Sunny had told the police that Tara was active in Thailand and had sent him money through a contact in Europe to travel to Bangkok where he was given training in arms and making bombs. — TNS
