Patiala, September 3
The Patiala police have told the Rajpur trial court that Thapar University student Gagandeep Bains, who died in September 2010, wasn’t murdered. In the challan, the police have submitted that the “cause of the accident was due to the negligence of truck driver Pradeep Kumar”.
On the night of September 27, 2010, management student Gagandeep and his friend Gaurav Verma were killed when their Ford Endeavour SUV crashed into a stationary truck near Liberty Chowk, Rajpura. Zorawar Singh, son of then Patiala SDM Gurmeet Singh, and his friend Jaskaran Singh were injured in the mishap.
However, Gagandeep’s father had said that he was murdered. On December 4, 2014, the SC ordered that a murder case be filed and an independent probe conducted by an SP-rank officer. The probe was completed by Superintendent Police Jaskiranjit Teja. On the truck driver’s negligence, the police have recommended charges of causing death by negligence.
