SONEPAT, SEPTEMBER 22
Additional District and Sessions Judge Sunita Grover today sentenced to life imprisonment Basant of Gorar village, his married beloved Sarita and car driver Ravi of Mani Majra in Chandigarh, convicting them for the murder Sandeep of Deepal Pur village and his mother, Roshni, on April 18, 2013.
Daya Nand of Deepalpur lodged a complaint to the police, stating that his son Sandeep was married to Sarita on April 15, 2013, and the marriage was arranged by Sarita’s maternal uncle, Jeeta of Bhainsru village in Rohtak district. He further stated that on April 18, two youths carrying a bag met him while he was going to the fields. After their introduction as relatives of Sarita, he took them to his house in the village. Soon after entering in the house, one of the youths opened the bag and started indiscriminate firing.
In the firing, Roshni died on the spot and Sandeep succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital. Daya nand’s sister, Prakasho, was also injured in the firing. While fleeing the spot in a car, Sarita also went along with them.
This blind double murder could be solved by the police as Dayanand had noted down the number of the car used in the crime. After arresting car driver Ravi on April 23, the police arrested Basant and Sarita from Delhi on June 9, 2013, and seized an SLR and 17 cartridges from Basant’s possession. Basant, who was serving in the Chandigarh Police, reportedly had an affair with Sarita when he committed the crime. — OC
