An unidentified person made away with a bag containing Rs 1 lakh, some cheques and other important documents from a car last evening.
Kishan Kumar, a resident of Model Town, said the incident took place yesterday evening when he was returning home from work. When he reached near Atam Park, the tyre of his car got punctured. While his driver started changing the tyre, he went to the nearby park. When he returned after sometime, he was shocked to find his bag, lying in the car, missing. The bag contained Rs 1 lakh cash, nine cheques and other important documents. He immediately informed the Model Town police.
Anganwadi worker’spurse snatched
In yet another case of snatching, a purse containing Rs 7,500 was snatched by a motorbike-borne youth in Jodhewal Basti area yesterday.
Neelam Patial, a resident of Noorwala Road, who works at an Anganwadi centre, said the incident took place around 4 pm when she was heading to books market near Noorwala Road.
She complained that unidentified youth, aged about 23 years, came on motorcycle from behind and snatched the purse from her hand. Before she could react, he accelerated away on his motorcycle. The purse contained Rs 7,500, ID card, old age pension card and other important documents.
The victim has registered a complaint against the person at the Jodhewal police station.
27 goats stolen
Some unidentified persons stole 27 goats from a meat shop.
The complainant, Muhammad Hussain, who runs a meat shop at Karabara Chowk, said 27 goats were stolen from the shed, where he keeps his goats. He said he had bought 29 goats from Bakar Mandi on March 15 and locked them at his shed. On March 19, he got a phone call by the owner of a dhaba near his shed, who informed him that some unidentified persons were stealing goats from the shed in a Scorpio car. By the time Hussain reached the spot, the thieves fled with the goats.
He kept searching for the goats on his own. Later, he registered a complaint at the Salem Tabri police station yesterday.
Tailor attacked, robbed of Rs10,000
Three unidentified miscreants robbed Rs 10,000 from a tailor after attacking him with a knife at Bhadhurke Road, late last night. The victim has been identified as Saroj resident of Bhadhurke Road.
According to the information, 16-year-old Saroj works as a tailor at a sewing unit near Jalebi Chowk. The contractor of the sewing unit, Uttam Kumar, gave him the monthly salary yesterday evening. After completing his shift, Saroj left the factory for his home around 9:30 pm. When he reached near Sacred Heart Public School, three miscreants, with their faces covered, intercepted him on the way. They asked Saroj to give them the money. Saroj denied and tried to escape from the spot following which the miscreants attacked him with a knife. They snatched the money from him and fled away. Saroj suffered severe injury on the left arm. The victim cried for help, but to no avail.
After reaching home, Saroj told his brother Manoj about the incident. He was rushed to Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), where he is undergoing treatment. The contractor is suspecting that someone who knew that Saroj got the salary might be involved in the robbery.
Case registered against unidentified driver
The Koom Kalan police have booked an unidentified driver of the Maruti Alto car which hit the SUV of wife and daughter of former SAD MLA from Khanna Ranjit Singh Talwandi last night.
Wife Sartaj Kaur Gill and daughter Anjuman sustained injuries and were rushed to a hospital.
In his complaint, Gurpreet Singh, driver of the SUV, stated that the driver of the Alto car hit their SUV while overtaking a bus.
A case has been registered under Sections 279, 337 and 427 of the IPC.
Bus driver booked for negligence
The Focal Point police booked a bus driver for hitting a man, who died during treatment at a local hospital yesterday.
The accused has been identified as Mohan Mishra, driver at New Fatehgarh Bus Service. In his complaint, Kuber Verma, brother of the diseased, stated that his brother Brijnath was been heading towards Gill Chowk from his residence. When he reached near the Gill chowk, the overspeeding bus of the accused hit him. He was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
A case has been registered under Sections 279 and 304-A of the IPC.
Coloniser booked
On the complaint of the officials of the Greater Ludhiana Development Authority (GLADA), the city police booked a coloniser for developing an illegal colony at Khaasi Kalan village.
The accused has been identified as Joga Singh, a resident of Khasi Kalan. Jagmail Singh, Estate Officer at GLADA office, said Joga Singh had developed an illegal colony on 3-acre land. He has constructed roads and other infrastructure without taking permission from GLADA.
A case has been registered Under the Punjab Apartment and Property Act at the Jamalpur police station.
Immigration fraud: Case against two persons
The city police have booked two persons for committing immigration fraud at SBS Nagar here today.
The accused have been identified as Jatinpal Singh of SBS Nagar and Rajinder Singh of Patiala. The accused have been running a consultancy firm to send people abroad.
In his complaint, victim stated that the accused took Rs 3.20 lakh from him and promised to send him abroad. However, they did not send him abroad nor did they return his money.
A case has been registered under Section 429 and 120-B of the IPC at the SBS Nagar police station.
Vehicle thief nabbed
Ludhiana: The Dugri police have nabbed a vehicle thief and recovered five vehicles from his possession. He was arrested from a police naka in Dugri here on Sunday. The accused has been identified as Jagjit Singh Jeeti, a resident of Street No. 7, Guru Angad Dev Nagar. He was reportedly travelling on a stolen vehicle. On being questioned, the accused cracked soon and stated that he was stealing two-wheelers parked in busy market places. Five vehicles, including two bikes and three scooters, have been recovered from the accused. The Dugri police have also recovered some vehicle parts. — TNS
