Ferozepur, December 22
A team of the Punjab Police and the BSF arrested a drug smuggler and his two associates and seized 22.53 kg heroin, worth over Rs 110 crore, from their possession this morning.
Ferozepur range DIG Amar Singh Chahal said the action came following a tip-off about the delivery of drugs along the Indo-Pakistan border on the intervening night of December 20-21. A trap was laid along the zero line near Gatti Rajoke village, he said.
Harbhajan Singh, alias Rana, of Nihala Khilcha, who indulged in cross-border peddling of drugs with the help of Pakistani smuggler Haji, was arrested and 22 packets of heroin (1 kg each) were seized from his possession. The drug was thrown from across the barbed fencing using a plastic pipe, the DIG said.
SSP Hardyal Singh Mann, who supervised the operation, said the police later nabbed Rishi, alias Babbar, of Zirakpur and Saurabh of Phillaur in connection with the case. They were waiting for the consignment near Kile Wala Chowk in their SUV. The SSP said 530 gm heroin was seized from their possession.
