The Crime Branch of the police has registered an FIR against a gang for cheating people.
An official spokesperson of the Crime Branch said a complaint was received from Yash Pal, a resident of Chowki Handan in Nowshera tehsil of Rajouri, in which he said he had received a call on his cell phone.
The complainant said the caller had told him that he had won Rs 15,80,000 in the the lucky draw of the BSNL. The caller asked the complainant to deposit Rs 15,000 as custom charges in account number 32507215776 in the name of Suman Kumar.
The spokesperson said the caller then told the complainant to deposit some more money as taxes and transaction fee. The complainant deposited a total of Rs 1,04,000 in different accounts provided by the caller and was cheated.
During the course of an inquiry, it was found that some unknown callers had provided different accounts from Madhya Pradesh to the complainant.
A case Under Sections 420, 465, 466, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B of the RPC was registered at the Crime Branch, Jammu, and investigations are on.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Crime Branch, Jammu, Mubassir Latifi said a number of such complaints had been received by the Crime Branch from different parts of Jammu province.
He appealed to the people not to fall prey to the machinations of tricksters who befool the innocent and gullible and rob them of their hard-earned money.
