Bathinda, February 16
The Bathinda police have booked the city cardiologist who pulled out a pistol during a dispute over payment with a dead patient’s son.
Civil Lines SHO Robin Singh said that the doctor, Gursewak Gill, has been booked under Sections 188 and 506 of the IPC for violating the District Magistrate’s orders and intimidating the patient’s son.
The cardiologist runs a hospital—Pragma Hospital— on Bhatti Road. Sahil Monga complained that the doctor gave an inflated bill after the death of his father Tara Chand. The complainant stated that the doctor claimed that the inflated bill was due to the lack of few entries. On this, Sahil raised a hue and cry and stated that if some entries had not been made, then the amount should be lesser. Local residents and family members of the victim gathered at the hospital and raised slogans against the hospital staff and doctor.
The irate public demanded the immediate arrest of the doctor who not only gave an inflated bill but also pulled out a weapon despite a ban on carrying of arms.
“The protesters made the bill a secondary issue. The chief cause of the agitation is the threatening of the dead patient’s son,” said Civil Lines SHO Robin Singh.
