Fear and panic gripped the area when a financer was allegedly shot dead by some unidentified persons today morning near Gorsian Makhan village.
The victim - Jugraj Singh (49) – was a resident of Dhothar village near Jagraon. He ran a finance company at Mullanpur.
Sources said the incident took place around 7.30 am today when the victim was out for cycling. When Jugraj reached near Government Primary School of his village, some unidentified persons arrived there in a white SUV and opened fire at him.
Jugraj received two bullet injuries in his abdomen and died on the spot.
Some youths coming back from a gym spotted the body lying in a pool of blood on the roadside and informed the police.
Jagraon SSP Ravcharan Singh Brar and DSP HS Parmar rushed to the spot.
The police have registered a case under various sections of the IPC against unidentified persons at Sidhwan Bet police station. Though the motive behind the killing is not clear yet but an old rivalry is believed to be the main cause.
Sidhwan Bet SHO Avtar Singh said the police have obtained the CCTV footage from a cooperative society and some other CCTV cameras installed near the crime spot and were looking into the footage to find a clue.
