Fraud: Seven travel agents booked

A woman travel agent, among seven persons, was booked by the city police in two separate cases for duping residents of several lakhs on the pretext of sending them abroad.
In the first case, the police have booked Ramesh Kumar of Panipat, Gulzar Singh of Karnal, Tarun Kumar of New Delhi, Mahinder Singh of Nangal Lubana village and Dalbir Singh of Ludhiana. They were booked under Sections 420, 120B and 24 of the Emigration Act, 1983, by the Sadar police.
Complainant Malkit Singh, a resident of Dhandra road, told the police that he had struck a deal with the accused, in which they had assured him a visa of Germany. But instead of sending him to Germany, they sent him to Thailand. After staying in Thailand for some time, the victim had to return to India.
Singh said, when he asked the agents to return his money, which was in lakhs, they refused. Police sources said raids were being conducted to arrest the accused.
In another similar case, the police have booked Jaspreet Singh and Nancy Gill, residents of Sidhwan Beit village, near here. Complainant Joga Singh of Rampura Phull village in Bathinda told the police that the accused had promised to send his son and daughter-in-law to Canada and in lieu they took Rs 7.58 lakh advance from him. Neither they were sent abroad nor their money was returned. The Sarabha Nagar police was conducting raids to arrest the accused.
