The city police have arrested a gangster wanted in an attempt to murder and other cases here today.
The police also recovered a 32-bore pistol and 15 cartridges from him. The accused has been identified as Madan Lal alias Makhan, a resident of Kapurthala.
According to information, the Sahnewal police got a tip-off that the accused was hiding at a house in Mundia Kalan area.
Balkar Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), said Makhan runs a gang in Kapurthala area and was wanted by the Kapurthala police in several criminal cases.
The police have been conducting raids at his probable hideouts for past several months. He used to escape from the spot before the police raid. Today, a team of the city police laid a trap to arrest the accused.
The team led by ACP Gurmeet Singh and SHO Sahnewal raided a house at GTB Nagar in Mundian Kalan area and arrested the accused. The police recovered a 32-bore pistol and 15 cartridges from him. The Sahnewal police booked Makhan under the Arms Act and produced him in court. The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) took him under police remand.
The police officials said they would try to trace his links with other gangsters, smugglers and arm traders during further investigation.
Meanwhile, the police have also arrested Sukhchain Singh alias Gopi in context of the murder of Ravi Khawajke. Ravi Khawajke was killed at a marriage function on February 20. According to the police sources, Gopi had given the information about the presence of Ravi at the marriage place to sharp shooter Davinder Bambiha. The police have been investigating the matter.
