“The victim, Seema Devi (27), hailing from Pesra village, Uttar Pradesh, was sleeping when her husband Vijay Kumar strangulated her to death with her ‘dupatta’ and fled from the spot after bolting the door of the room from outside”, said Navreet Singh Virk, DSP (city II), here today.
Vijay Kumar has been absconding, said the police.
Giving information, the DSP said that Vijay was heavily drunk when he came to his residence last night. “Seeing his condition, Seema Devi nagged him for being drunk, following which, the couple had a fight last night. The victim’s brother, Raju, who lives in the same locality, said that Sonika came to him this morning and told him about the murder of her mother.

We intervened and pacified both of them following which the children and Seema went for sleep”, said Raju.
Raju alleged that the silver chain, which Seema used to wear in her neck, was also missing.
The police said during these three years, Raju used to work as a farm labourer in Haryana.
