The Chandigarh Police have registered a case of cheating against Nikkamal Babu Ram and Sons, Sector 22, for allegedly selling 16.2 carat gold to a customer claiming it to be 22 carat.
According to the police, Sanjeev Goyal, a resident of Sector 15, Panchkula, complained that he purchased four gold bangles in 2002. Goyal alleged that the jeweller sold the bangles to him claiming that these were 22 carat gold and he paid the price accordingly.
The police said the complainant recently went to sell the gold and it was found that the bangles were of 16.2 carat gold.
Inspector Uday Pal, SHO of the Sector 17 police station, said the complainant got the bangles checked from a certified laboratory. “A case of cheating has been registered against
Mandeep Jain, M/s Nikkamal Babu Ram and Sons,” the SHO said. Mandeep Jain refuted the allegations of cheating levelled against him. “I will approach the court,” Jain said.
