Jind ASI booked for bribery

After a video clip showing a local ASI taking Rs 200 as a bribe from a local jeweller for passport verification went viral on WhatsApp and Facebook, the Jind SP suspended the ASI late last evening. The ASI was today booked under the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act.

The ASI, who was posted in Jind city police station, allegedly started threatening the jeweller after getting information about the sting operation.

Sunil Kapoor, who runs a jewellery shop in the local main market , went to Jind city police station for the verification of his passport on September 14 . As per the sting operation (uploaded on FB), when Sunil got up to leave after completing all paper work, the ASI allegedly demanded money. Though Sunil initially refused, he later gave Rs 200 to Mahinder under pressure.

Sunil uploaded the video clip on FB on September 15 and circulated it among his friends through WhatsApp.

“When Mahinder got to know about the sting operation and the video clip, he threatened to kill all my family and implicate me in a false case. When I said that I would inform senior officers, the ASI replied all are involved in corruption” alleged Sunil in his complaint sent to Jind SP Abhishek Jorwal on September 19. After seeing the clip, Abhishek Jorwal suspended ASI Mahinder and ordered Dinesh Yadav, DSP, Jind City, to probe the case.
